2008-2009 RECAP
2009 was another great year for the Titanium Knights. At R@R3 BCA swept the competition with UKnight placing 1st,
MiniKnightrous placing 2nd, and Good Knight placing 3rd. Our team also placed 1st place at the Boston University Design Challenge.
Brigid Blakeslee, Andrew Crudge and Stephanie Bohaczuk won 2nd place at the Panasonic Creative Design Challenge, while Peter Iskaros, Howard Hwang, and Donald Sung won third. Uknight won 3rd place and "Best Safety Practice" at Rumble at the Rock IV.
At the Motorama 2009 ant weight competition, 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 7th places.
2nd, 3rd, and 7th place - Motorama hobbyweight competition. Team member Donald Sung publishes an article on A123 Battery Packs in the January 2009 edition of Servo Magazine.
2007-2008 RECAP
The Titanium Knights had an awesome year. In competition with 135 other
teams at the National BotsIQ event, our teams placed 3rd, 4th, 6th and
7th. Robot Knightrous took 3rd Place in the Large Class event.
Knightrous also won “Best Engineered” and "Coolest Robot” awards for a
second time and had the honor of being the only robot to ever eject an
opponent out of the arena. Unfortunately Knightrous retires now,
BattleBots style, after suffering heavy damage in the final rounds.
Other large class robots performed well including 7th Place for our
newly designed Mighty Knight scoring 4-2 and robot Overlord scoring
1-2. Our Mini Class robots were outrageous in 08! Robots Good Knight
and Mini Knightrous both won 1st Place at the Regional BotsIQ
Competitions and later finished 4th and 7th at the Nationals. Mini
Knightrous, like its big brother Knightrous, also ejected 2 bots out of
the Mini Class BattleBox and gave some of the best matches of the year.
Also in the Mini Class, new robot UKnight won 6th Place and was "Rumble
Champion." In the return of the Panasonic Creative Design Challenge,
our students performed spectacularly winning 2nd and 4th place and
bringing home nearly 20k in scholarships and prizes. Furthermore, the
group and individuals produced exceptional results at North East Robot
Conflict events winning a 1st and 4th place, and at other regional and
national science fairs including honorable mentions in the Dimension
Extreme Redesign competition. Students also continued with the West
Point Bridge Building Competition and made a visit to the George
Washington Bridge. Our group was once again the highlighted attraction
at our 5th Annual Engineering Week Luncheon and they were spotlighted
in the media, most notably, in a video presentation for our school's
"Intel School of the Year" winning presentation. Members also worked to
produce Adaptive Technology products to help handicapped students in
our district. A SWE chapter was also created on campus.
2006-2007 RECAP
The Titanium Knights finished this year with high marks. In competition with 117 other teams at the national BotsIQ event, our robot E2V2, took 2nd Place in the Large Class event.
E2V2 is now a 3-time champ, and it faces mandatory retirement by BotsIQ rules.
Our other 120 pound robot Knightrous, and new robot Overlord, also fought well.
In addition Mini Knightrous, Good Knight and Knighteen, three 15 pound robots, were victorious in several of their matches in the Mini Class.
Furthermore, the group and individuals produced exceptional results at North East Robot Conflict events,
and at other regional and national science fairs including three robotic combat events sponsored by our group and held on campus.
Also, students involved in the West Point Bridge Building Competition,
Civil Engineering and Architecture courses and the Bridge Building project were treated to a tour of the George Washington Bridge.
Additionally, our group was the highlighted attraction at our 4th Annual Engineering Week Luncheon and the BCA Expo.
2005-2006 RECAP
Thanks to the continued support of the BCA community, the Titanium Knights finished last year as the National BattleBotsIQ Champions!
Veteran robot E2V2 was undefeated receiving First Place. Rookie robot Knightrous scored 2 wins and 2 losses.
Knightrous won the awesome “Coolest Robot Award” and the prestigious “Best Engineered BattleBot.” In the 15 pound class, robot MiniTK and robot Hunter also produced several wins.
BattleBotsIQ chooses to use a photo of our Titanium Knight robot for the cover of their event pamphlet.
Additionally, students involved in the North East Robotic Conflict (NERC) events produced over 20 (1 pound) robots individually and in small groups.
These students attended up to 3 local and regional events producing more wins and honorable mentions than we could record.
Members of our group also participated in the Boston University Design Challenge,
the West Point Bridge Building Competition and other science fairs producing impressive results including WP Regional Champs.
The Titanium Knights hosted our 3rd annual Eweek Luncheon and presented robot driving and combat matches at the BCA Expo.
2004-2005 RECAP
The
Titanium Knights returned home with 2nd, 3rd and 4th place wins at the
BBIQV Competition in Orlando, Florida. Over a hundred robots from high
schools across the country were present. Large class robot “E2V2,” was
undefeated until the final match taking second place away from our long
time NJ rival Delbarton. Mini class robot “Mini-E” scored third in its
class plus was awarded “Coolest Robot.” Also large class veteran robot
“Titanium Knight” scored fourth place and “Rumble Champion”. Both
large class robots were victorious in all matches except against the
now two time champion Falcon. Other wins included “Outstanding
Sportsmanship” in the task-based division, and “Best Use of IFI Control
System.” Additionally, students won 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place at the North
East Robotic Conflict events. Sadly, the Panasonic competition was
discontinued. Engineering students attended our 2nd annual Engineering Week
Luncheon where theTitanium Knights hosted our first in-house robot
event.
2003-2004 RECAP
In
the 2003-2004 year, Titanium Knight once again received 9th place.
However we entered it in the robot rumble against 7 other robots
simultaneously and won “Rumble Champion.” Newcomer E2V2 makes its debut
at the BBIQIII. E2V2 took 7th place out of the 32
competitors. Also, table top robot, TBD, was a finalist. Members
of the group also participated in the Panasonic Creative Design
Challenge winning “First Place,” “Best Documentation” and the T-Shirt
Contest. Additionally, students won 3rd and 5th Place at the North East
Robotic Conflict events. Engineering students hosted our 5th annual
Engineering Fair and attended our first annual
Engineering Week Luncheon.
2002-2003 RECAP
The
2002-2003 robot design for BBIQII was named "Titanium Knight" after our schools sports teams "the Knights," so our robotics team was
renamed the “Titanium Knights.” TK took 9th place at BBIQII, winning
half its matches. Members of the group also participated in the
Panasonic Creative Design Challenge winning “Fifth Place” and “Best
Documentation.” Engineering students hosted our 4th annual Engineering
Fair.
2001-2002 RECAP
At
the Inaugural BattleBots IQ National event, Bergen County Academies'
first robotics sports team, “Electronic Emphasis,” designed and built a
120 lb combat robot called “E2.” The robot took 7th place in the
competition with 6 wins against Metal Fury, Reaver, Wut, Joan of Arc,
Checkmate, and Defenestrator and 2 losses against Evil Eagle, and
Botsy. A legacy was born! Members of the group also participated in the
Panasonic Creative Design Challenge winning “Fourth Place,” “Most
Creative Design,” and “Best Documentation.” Engineering students hosted
our 3rd annual Engineering Fair and a Robot
Exhibition for local teams that appeared on Good Day New York.
2000-2001 RECAP
After years of engaging science and engineering students in classroom robot and design competitions, Mr. DeFalco started offering new and more exciting challenges to his students. In the late 90s, the Panasonic Creative Design Challenge was offered as a project and in 2001 members of the group won “Second Place.” With success in this and other events, MrD attended a summer workshop for a new program called BattleBotsIQ from the creators of the Comedy Central show “BattleBots”. Engineering students also hosted our 2nd annual Engineering Fair.
