Component 1...
TASK 1:
Cancer is notable for being one of the worst diseases on Earth. It is not like any other disease; even with our advanced technology today, we are still beginners at the study of cancer. Cancer cells divide and reproduce at uncontrollable rates and are hard to suppress. Cancer is an extremely perilous disease which requires the lot of energy of patients, money, and a long period of time to treat it, and it is also considered as one of the common diseases. It is estimated that about 565, 650 American will develop cancer each year. The first step in curing cancer would be to understand the formation of cancer. Once we take a real life view of the process of its reproduction, it will lead to solutions that decelerate the time it takes for cancer to reproduce, and eventually advance to a cure that can disintegrate the cancer.
TASK 2:
When our group chose to create a medical device, we wanted to consider all the medical, health issues that are affecting the whole world. We were searching for a disease or health problems that are fatal to humans and occurring in all the countries around the world. We decided that cancer is still the most hazardous disease and that it is necessary for us to discover a way to handle this health issue. At first, we tried to find a way that can cure the cancer without killing the blood cells and causing too much pain for the patients. However, we realized that cancer cells reproduce and spread in the body extremely fast, almost at uncontrollable rate. We then changed our plan and tried to create a device that can help doctors to view the reproduction of cancer cells more details and information. Soon, we thought of a camera that could be injected into the blood stream and allow the doctors to see the reproduction and formation of cancer.
TASK 3:
- Center for Cancer Research
A group of doctors, including a surgeon, a radiologist, and an oncologist, are working on the project, that is concentrated on the a collection of images of human body taken by various imaging technologies, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electron paramagnetic resonance imaging (EPRI). Their goal is to combine these images into a single image, which displays full information about the tumor to the doctors and researchers, including the tumor’s size and location.
- American Cancer Society
Research groups of American Cancer Society (ACS) are concentrating to find a way that can find the causes of the cancer and prevent/ cure the diseases. Moreover, this organization is known as the largest source of funds and investments that are used for the cancer researches in United States. They support the research groups by investing private and non- profit cancer research funds. Since 1946, they invested about $3 billion in cancer research.
TASK 4:
Over 1.4 million people were expected to be diagnosed with a case of cancer in 2008. For those people, it would be a hard journey to conquer cancer and survive or be among the 565,650 people expected to die of cancer. Approximately 10.8 million people are struggling with cancer in United States and their lives were completely changed. With a diagnose of cancer, you experience constant check-ups, chemotherapy, surgery and all the great pain that comes with therapies. Most cancer patients have to quit their jobs to complete the treatment. Hair loss would be a physical change in a cancer patient. Moreover, if the treatment is successful, there are still many side effects from treatment which include anxiety, depression, vomiting, nausea and sleep disorders. Coping with cancer is often a very hard and difficult path on the road to recovery.
TASK 5:
Cancer has placed on number two, for the most common cause of death in United States after heart disease and is expected to rise on to number one in the next decade. The rate of developing cancer during a lifetime is very high for both men and women being that one in two men and one in three women. Therefore, the government is doing a lot to help the study and treatment of cancer. Last year, the cost of cancer for the nation was over 206 billion dollars. Moreover, seventeen percent of Americans have no health insurance coverage and are younger that sixty-five. Meanwhile, twenty-four percent of Americans have Medicare and are sixty-five of older. If the cancer is detected at an early stage, the treatment needed to revitalize the health of the patient is significantly lower. In addition, the cost for the treatment would be lower because it isn't as serious or difficult to remove the cancer compared to cancer that was discovered in a later stage. The low cost would affect the economy, especially in the medical field, but it is far more beneficial for the patient and his health.
