BCA Math Competition 2009
Dear Competitors,
As you are looking through this year’s scores, please know that the tests were significantly more difficult than the tests from previous years. This extreme difficulty was an unintentional and unfortunate result of the different criteria used in writing and selecting this year’s problems. Significant efforts will be made, in the coming years, to assure that the tests have more routine and less non-routine (“trick”) problems so that they are accessible to students who are gaining their first exposure to competition mathematics.
If you did poorly this year, please do not be discouraged. We hope you will continue to be interested in mathematics. So long as you remain motivated and continue to study mathematics, you will one day be able to solve all of these problems easily.
